How we work15 July 20265 min read

Why Alur.ai instead of the other web designers near me?

Fair question, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a brochure. There are good web designers out there. If you've already found one who does right by you, keep them; this article isn't trying to talk you out of it.

For everyone else: the web design industry has quietly changed in the last few years, and it's worth understanding how before you sign anything.

What's changed: anyone can generate a website now

AI tools can now produce a decent-looking website in an afternoon. Genuinely decent: modern, clean, and presentable in a portfolio. The price of simply having a website has fallen dramatically, and some firms have built their whole business on that: prompt in, site out, invoice sent.

One thing needs to be clear, because it's the crux of this whole article: the problem is not AI. We use AI every single day, and openly. The problem is using it as the builder rather than as a power tool.

The one-shot problem

When a site is generated in one attempt and delivered, nobody deeply understands what was built, including the person who sold it to you. It looks finished. Then real life happens:

  • You ask for a change, and because nobody understands the code, the fix is to regenerate and hope. Fixing one thing can quietly break another.
  • You want to add online booking, a gift voucher shop or a page for your second location, and the honest quote is a rebuild, because nothing was structured for growth.
  • The invisible things Google cares about (speed, structure, and the machine-readable labelling we cover in our SEO guide) were never considered, because one-shot generation doesn't plan ahead.

In practice, version one was also the final version.

How we work instead

We're engineers first. Jennifer spent years building infrastructure for companies moving billions: the kind of systems where "it broke and nobody knows why" is never an acceptable answer. That standard came with her.

Every site we ship is designed and engineered by us, with AI used the way a good joiner uses the nail gun: to move faster on work we fully understand. We can read, explain and change every line of what we build. When you ask for a change, we make exactly that change.

And because we understand the foundations, we lay them for what's coming, not just what's launching. Your site might start as five pages. When you're ready for online bookings, payments or a customer portal, those are added to the same foundations, not bolted onto a sealed box, and not quoted as a rebuild.

Our pricing keeps us honest

One more structural difference: we charge a monthly price, and we host and manage everything we build. Think about what that does to incentives. A one-shot builder is paid on delivery, so day one is their finish line. A badly built site costs us every month, in maintenance work, for as long as you're a client. We are directly invested in building it properly.

And the ordinary reasons

The rest is what you'd hope for from any good small firm: we're a two-person team based in Manchester, you always talk to the people doing the work, and between us we've spent more than a decade in hospitality and front-line service, so we've stood where your customers stand.

If that sounds like the right fit, the next step is a conversation, not a contract. Get in touch and tell us what you're trying to build.
